So given the bike is my main transport now and with a cold winter promised I figured perhaps prepare a little bit.
Winter tyres on bikes doesn’t really seem to be a Thing in the UK (same as with cars then), so I had to order these from Germany. I’ve not ordered tyres off the internet before, especially not from abroad but it all worked pretty well. I picked up a set of spare rims so I can swap summer/winter wheels easily without having to muck about changing tyres.
The tyres are “Heidenau K66” – they’re “mud and snow rated” which should mean I’m covered and they seemed to have the best overall rating for winter conditions. They’ve apparently got a high silica content which means they’re a bit softer and warm up quicker, even in sub-zero temps. It seems like there was no issues with clearance around the mudguards either which is something I was concerned about.
I’ve still gotta break them in properly but so far they feel good to ride on. Gotta admit I kinda like how they look (for the winter anyway)
